That is what you’ll hear here in the Philippines. Imagine having an average temperature of 40°C everyday. And yet you can still see Filipinos drinking a steaming hot cup of coffee. It just doesn’t make sense. But in serious matters, a lot of people especially in the hottest regions of the Philippines such as Dagupan, Pangasinan and etc. The recorded cases of Heat stroke gradually increases from time to time and the effects of the said phenomena deteriorates agricultural sectors such as farming. A lot of people’s health are prone to heat illnesses especially, the students.

Asynchronous and Synchronous classes has been evident during the pandemic, and I thought it ends there. But because of these weather, we have no choice but to stay indoors and continue learning there. For me, these competencies have their own ups and downs.

Asynchronous learning lessens the risk of having heat chubaloos caused by staying outdoors. And at the same time, we get to spend time with our family more since we’re closer to them now than we are in our classrooms. It might be effective to those that see self-studying as an effective way of learning or those who can concentrate more if they study the lecture themselves but for me, I don’t think Asynchronous classes can work for me. I cannot grasp the Idea of giving students activities and that is what we are going to do for the whole day. There is the uncertainty that the students will do the activity themselves or cheat. Especially that A.I. can do things such as assignments and solving instead of the students gaining the knowledge by doing it themselves. And for my self-perception, as an S.T.E. student, we carry 12 subjects and I often feel overwhelmed by doing 12 or more activities a day. Due to this, I felt Laziness. Synchronous Classes on the other hand is also done by some teachers in determination to teach their student despite the distance they have to one another. I like this competency more than the other because for me, Synchronous classes has the presence of the teacher. And additionally, I think it is more effective to learn something if someone teaches you about it.

Though both learning style does their job upon teaching students. I myself continuously experience procrastination. This is one of the downside of distance learning because students tend to think that activities can wait since it is already there and all that it waits is for you to do it. Because of this, students miss deadlines, lose their interest, and lose determination upon studying. Additionally, here are some the challenges students face when doing distance learning

  • Lack Of Creativity – because the students do their activities while not in a learning atmosphere. Students frequently see the T.V.s, Gadgets, Games, etc. in their homes, causing them to rush their activities to entertain themselves
  • Stress – Remember that the feeling of overwhelm can put you into distress and pressure.

I only stated some but there are still a lot of things student experience behind this learning styles. As a form of help, here are some solutions for these such troubles.

  • Scheduling – give a certain time for a certain activity so that you can give adequate time for each and every activity you’ll do
  • Rest – Give time for yourself, don’t let yourself burn just for academics.
  • LOOK FOR INSPIRATION 🙂 – Having this can greatly impact your determination upon doing an activity
  • 1,2,3 Count Technique – Once you lose interest, or felt uninterested. Just count to 3 and after that counting, you should continue/start what you’re doing. (Trust me it works)
